An intern is just a 1st year resident. A resident is a doctor who graduate medical school and is starting training contained by a specific field. That person said, resident pay is predicted by the location of the residency and the years of experience, not the type of residency program. So an intern would be payed in the order of $40k and each year they would carry about 3k more. Hope that help!

ER = Emergency Room, aka ED or just Emergency Medical doc. Granted, their salary are generally low until they return with resident status, but it's amazing to me how salaries for indistinguishable job can rise and fall drastically across regions.
I've even heard that the difficult paid doctors practice out surrounded by rural settings, because all of them want to work within the cities. Higher supply = lower wages. Work in the boonies and you're within high constraint, which equates to higher wages.
