Well, people disagree near it because every stem cell that it used for testing and research could potentially own grown into a human.
Now for my personal opinion: This is not a flawless reason to put down the research because lives will be save. The research is so young and solid discoveries are almost guaranteed to be made and not only will lives be save, but we will just hold a much greater understanding of the human cell. There's still so much that we don't know.
Now, even beside that aside, there's still the issue of killing potential humans. This isn't much of a verbs because 99.9% of stem cells used are ones from couples who hold undergone IVF and are not going to be used. In other words, the cells would be thrown out anyways, so why not put them to appropriate use?
