Bone marrow is the spongy matter found in the center of most considerable bones in the body. The different cell that make up blood are made surrounded by the bone marrow. Bone marrow (the stem of all blood cell - hence stem cells) produces red blood cells, white blood cell, and platelets. Along with a biopsy (the sampling of mostly solid tissue or bone), an aspiration (the sampling of mostly liquid) is habitually done at the same time.
A bone biopsy is perform by making a small incision into the skin. The needle is introduced into the iliac bone, near anesthesia, of course.
